28.9 Information

Information: IHO Definition: Textual information about the feature. (S-57 Edition 3.1, Appendix A – Chapter 2, Page 2.141, November 2000).

Indication: The complex attribute provides additional textual information that cannot be provided using other allowable attributes for the feature, and defines the language of the text string.

Remarks:

 This complex attribute should be used, for example, to hold the information that is shown on paper charts by cautionary and explanatory notes.

 No formatting of text is possible within information. If formatted text is required, then an associated text file referenced by the complex attribute textual description must be used (see clause X.X).

Conditions:

1. Either TXTDSC, onlineResource or INFORM must be completed in one instance of TXTCON, but not more than one of these.
2. If REGLTS/TXTCON is populated, there cannot be TXTDSC and INFORM attributes directly bound to the REGLTS.

Justification:

Provides metadata to indicate to systems and users the nature, location and language of information held in external files.


Comments:

TXTDSC and INFORM are Hydro domain S-57 attributes and will not be maintained here.
