raphael 17:35, 24 January 2014 (UTC): Proposed by Japan (Takeshi Ohhara):

  • tsunami advisory
  • fog information

raphael 17:35, 24 January 2014 (UTC): First drafts of definitions:

  • tsunami advisory: a tsunami with the potential to generate strong currents or waves dangerous to those in or very near the water is imminent, expected, or occurring
  • fog information: advisory for widespread or localized fog

Detailed definitions are at National Tsunami Warning Center (US/NOAA/NWS) from where the definition of tsunami advisory is extracted. There are 4 levels of messages for tsunamis: warning, advisory, watch, and information. If "tsunami advisory" is accepted, do we need to (a) consider "tsunami watch" and "tsunami information" too, and (b) change the definition of "tsunami warning"?

For "fog information" I have found only the NOAA National Weather Service definition: "Dense Fog Advisory: An advisory for widespread or localized fog reducing visibilities to regionally or locally defined limitations not to exceed 1 nautical mile."

jens 13:55, 27 January 2014 (UTC) "Tsunami warning" already exists as value 19. I think the purpose of the definitions in this case is not to describe what a certain phenomena is. Rather I think, this information is related to radio service and thus, the definition should provide information of what is being broadcasted.

Fog information is IMO included in 2 : Meteorological warning.

raphael 15:40, 27 January 2014 (UTC): Are there by any chance stations which provide one kind of tsumami information but not another?

jens 19:44, 28 January 2014 (UTC) Honestly, I've no idea. The IMO paper doesn't mention such a possibility. I suggest that we should not try to be more clever than the IMO.

Takeshi 06:25, 29 January 2014 (UTC) Tsunami advisory” and “Fog information” are not surely defined in IMO. But, we think that these in formations on radio broadcasting are necessary for attention calling for the safety of the navigation of the vessels. So, we are providing these in formations by radio broadcasting and NAVTEX. And, we issue the SD and inform to mariners including these facts.

raphael 15:55, 30 January 2014 (UTC): Or revise category 19?
tsunami bulletin (broadcast?): messages (broadcasts?) about tsunamis, including watches, advisories, and other types of messages relating to tsnuamis or potential tsunamis

raphael 00:13, 5 April 2014 (UTC): Is "ice report" supposed to include ice forecasts? "Icing warning" is about icing on ships.

CATMAB cannot encode "high seas forecast" or "weather bulletin for coastal waters" and WETFCA.CATFCA can encode only the location part (high seas, coastal, etc.). Suggest adding these categories to CATMAB.

jens 18:40, 9 April 2014 (UTC) "icing warning" is about icing on ships
The remarks indicate that the attribute TRMCTN should be used if CATMAB can't be used. We shpuld strictly follow the IMO paper regarding MSI.

raphael (talk) 05:38, 6 February 2017 (CET): Proposed definition: Classification of maritime broadcast based on the nature of information conveyed.
