raphael 10:01, 1 May 2009 (CEST) the 2nd "Of" in the camel case name should be "Or"

done, thanks for spotting.

--raphael (talk) 09:20, 19 January 2017 (CET): Summary of e-mail exchanges
If the codes proposed are also used for other classification systems (Class 7, Class 8 and Class 9 are probably the best in your submissions), they will not be able to be used as the definition for the codes will not fit (Class 7 definition for instance is "Radioactive material"). Rather than just having the code as the concept name, the classification scheme should also be included, (e.g. dangerous cargo class 1: division 1.1, dangerous cargo class 1: division 1.2, .....).

(TBD. Need to clarify what the issue is, i.e., what is meant by 'the codes will not fit'. Maybe a registry implementation issue?)

CATDHC is a refinement of one listed value of CATCGO. They should not be merged because they are of different levels of granularity, merging them and then applying restrictions just moves complexity from one place to another. Also, it is possible that in some cases the source may say just 'dangerous or hazardous cargo' and in other cases the source may mention specific classes and provide different rules for different classes.

jens (talk) 09:39, 23 January 2017 (CET) I totally agree with Raphael. The distinction of CATCGO and CATDHC considered the various source information.

raphael (talk) 02:51, 2 February 2017 (CET): Should we revise the labels on the theory that the label of a listed value should give the mariner a better idea of what the value denotes? For example:

  • Alternative A:
    • 1: Explosives - Div. 1.1
    • 2: Explosives - Div. 1.2
    • 7: Flammable gases - Div. 2.1
    • 18: Radioactive material - Class 7
  • Alternative B:
    • 1: IMDG Div. 1.1
    • 2: IMDG Div. 1.2
    • 7: IMDG Div. 2.1
    • 18: IMDG Class 7
  • Alternative C:
    • 1: Explosives (mass explosion) - IMDG 1.1
    • 2: Explosives (projection) - IMDG 1.2
    • 7: Flammable gases - IMDG 2.1
    • 13: Water reactive flammable substances - IMDG 4.3
    • 18: Radioactive material - IMDG 7

Also: Definition needed. The registry has the definition as just 'Category of dangerous or hazardous cargo'

Proposed definition: Classification of dangerous goods or hazardous materials based on the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code).
