 Actually I collected all time zones here, The list needs revision. The summer time entries and identical time zones with different names have to be removed.
 Day light saving time will be modeled by separate attributes.

[[User:DavidAcland|DavidAcland]] 13:52, 23 February 2011 (UTC) Good start. I agree. I think we need the 24 geographic areas. These include 0 and -12. +12 covers the same geographic area as -12. I have isolated the additional required timezones. These are:
 Newfoundland 3.5
 Iran -3.5
 Afganistan -4.5
 India -5.5
 Nepal -5.75
 Myanmar (Burma) -6.5
 Central Australia, -9.5
 Lord Howe Island (Australia) -10.5
 Norfolk Is -11.5
 Chatham Island -12.75

Although Nepal is land locked I think we should keep it in.
I am not sure how we model countries and their Daylight Saving Time offsets and periods to these time zones.

This would make an attribute with 34 enumerations. I suggest 1 - 12 for the negative timezones; then 0 to -12, then the list above. Include the letter equivalent, and possibly the name (i.e. Pacific Standard Time) and abbreviation (PST) in the definition.

[[User:DavidAcland|DavidAcland]] 16:35, 26 January 2012 (UTC): As there are multiple entries for several time zones such as "Central European Time" and "West African Time" sharing Zone time A, UTC+1, I suggest we do not normally add these names but do add the names in the unusual cases where Nations have elected for standard times that are offset by a whole number plus 30 or 45 minutes.
The alternative, which may be marginally more helpful would be to collect ALL the definitions of a time zone and add them to each definition so UTC+1 would be:

"Zone time A: Central European Time; West African Time; Western European Daylight Time; Western European Summer Time; British Summer Time; Irish Summer Time; AIX specific equivalent of Central European Time; "

A final proposal would be to provide the abbreviation as well (as Jens has done in his table) so:

"Zone time A: Central European Time (CET); West African Time (WAT); Western European Daylight Time (WEDT); Western European Summer Time (WEST); British Summer Time (BST); AIX specific equivalent of Central European Time (DFT); Irish Summer Time (IST);"
